FORM OF TRASPORTATION
Depending on your budget, comfort level, and schedule, you have a few practical transportation options to choose from:
1. The Local Bus ("Chicken Bus")
- How it works: These are the iconic, brightly painted retired North American school buses. They run constantly throughout the day between the main bus terminal in Antigua and Ciudad Vieja.
- Cost: Very inexpensive—usually just a few Guatemalan Quetzales (well under $1 USD) each way.
- Vibe: It’s a full cultural immersion experience itself! They can get crowded and bumpy, but they are incredibly efficient and run roughly every 10 to 15 minutes until early evening.
2. Tuk-Tuks
- How it works: These small, three-wheeled motorized rickshaws are everywhere in Antigua and Ciudad Vieja. You can easily hail one on the street.
- Cost: Generally around 25 to 40 Quetzales ($3 to $5 USD) for a one-way trip between the towns, though it's always smart to agree on the price with the driver before you hop in.
- Vibe: Fun and breezy, though the cobblestone roads can make for a lively ride. It's a great middle-ground for a direct, private trip.
3. Ride-Hailing Apps (Uber)
- How it works: Uber operates reliably in the Antigua area. You can simply pin your location and your destination at the academy.
