Spanish immersion school antigua guaetemala

I attended classes at the Spanish Academy Ciudad Vieja in Antigua Guatemala in April 2011. It was a mind-blowing experience. The school treated me like part of the family. 

Señora Olga, who was my instructor, was excellent. The Spanish Academy Ciudad Vieja itself is wonderful; I felt completely safe and at home there. I learned more Spanish than I thought I would during the short time I was there through their immersive Spanish language immersion program. I would suggest anyone who has a chance to study at the Spanish Academy Ciudad Vieja in Antigua Guatemala to do it; it will be one of the best decisions you will make. It certainly was for me, and I will never forget this experience. I will return soon. Muchas Gracias.

I had a great time learning Spanish in Antigua Guatemala with the Spanish Academy Ciudad Vieja! The teacher was excellent and everyone, including the host family, was very kind and patient. I had a wonderful week of classes with Amanda at the Spanish Academy Ciudad Vieja. She is well versed in Kachiquel and Mayan cultures, especially in traditional clothing and its patterns. During our lessons, we explored the history of Guatemala and the repression faced by the Mayans. We also discussed traditional Mayan stories and the worldview behind them. I started reading Menchu’s book to learn more about the civil war and its impact on indigenous communities. This experience was not only a Spanish language immersion but also a deep dive into the indigenous cultures here, particularly in Antigua Guatemala. I highly recommend Amanda as your teacher if you are interested in indigenous cultures, Mayan rituals, and stories.
