Study Abroad Spanish Guatemala: Spanish Academy Ciudad Vieja

 I attended classes at this Spanish Language School in Guatemala in April 2011. It was a mind blowing experience. The school treated me like part of the family. 

Señora Olga who was my instructor was excellent. The Spanish Academy itself is wonderful, I felt completely safe and at home there. I learned more Spanish than I thought I would in short time I was there. I would suggest anyone who has a chance to study at Ciudad Vieja Spanish Academy to do it, it will be one of the best decisions you will make, it was for me, I will never forget this experience and I will return soon. Muchas Gracias.

The teacher was excellent and everyone, including the host family was very kind and patient. I would highly recommend this school for anyone wanting to improve their Spanish through immersion!

I had one-week wonderful classes with Amanda. She is well versed in Kachiquel and Mayan cultures, especially those of traditional clothes and its patterns. 

We learned the history of Guatemala and how Mayans were repressed. We also talked about the traditional Mayan stories and the worldview behind them. 

I started reading Menchu’s book to know more about the civil war and how it impacted the indigenous communities. It was not only a Spanish class but also a class that gave me a deeper understanding of the indigenous cultures here. I highly recommend Amanda as your teacher if you are interested in indigenous cultures, Mayan rituals and stories. 

I spent three weeks at Spanish Academy Ciudad Vieja and absolutely loved my experience. My teacher was fantastic, and the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. Everyone is so kind and genuinely looks out for you. What I really appreciated is that the school isn't traditional—they focus on helping you reach your personal goals and prioritize what’s most important for becoming conversational. They helped me achieve my goals, and I’m leaving bilingual!

Finding this school has been an amazing discovery! I am very happy with every aspect of my experience. The staff made it very easy to register, and they have accommodated my schedule without any difficulty. 

The fees were very reasonable, and the quality of instruction has been exceptional. The administrative staff have also gone out of their way to make every day enjoyable and to create a comfortable, personal environment where I have felt more like part of a household than a student in a school - coffee and snacks and genuine personal attention. It has been terrific. 

I recommend the Spanish Academy Ciudad Vieja to anyone wanting to learn and improve their ability in Spanish. The school is located in Ciudad Vieja, close to Antigua, and as a result offers an authentic experience in a small town. I enjoyed walking to and from the school every day, interacting with people, visiting small shops along the way, and enjoying the incredibly safe and friendly atmosphere of Ciudad Vieja.

We were looking for a Spanish school on the outskirts of Antigua. The academy is conveniently located in the heart of Ciudad Vieja; providing an authentic immersion experience. 

Everyone there was very friendly and helpful. They even arranged parking for our car everyday. Rolando and Amanda were outstanding teachers and we highly recommend them too. 

In addition to working on our Spanish, we choose to take some time to learn to make tortillas, beans, and hot cocoa. As well, we learned about the some of the different cultures and traditions in Guatemala. A great experience overall! Thank you Spanish Academy Ciudad Vieja.
